Mauritius is an island of volcanic origin. These can be causes for interesting elevations of mountain ranges, waterfalls and cliffs. Trou Aux Cerfs is located approx. in the center of Mauritius.
Trou Aux Cerf is a deep dormant crater volcano. It is 605 m (1985 ft) high and is located in Cure pipe, Mauritius. It has a well defined cone and crater. The crater is 80 m deep having the diameter of 350 meters. Presently this volcano is lying dormant but could become active at any time within next thousand years. However, as on date, it is a favorite sightseeing place for many locals and tourists. A 360 degree view of Cure pipe town and the coastal plains can be had from this crater.
The region of Cure pipe is quite cool when compared to other region as it sits high on the Central Plateau.
However, there is a great view point near to a pavilion from where one can have a beautiful view of the surroundings. From the top of volcano crater, a very good view of Mauritius and its mountain ranges can be had.
